This week is the end of an era. It’s the week that we wave goodbye to Alan Meats – Acme’s longest serving member of staff.
Alan, who has worked for Acme (with a small gap!) since 1970, is taking up his well-earned retirement at the end of this week. If you want to wish him farewell, Thursday 26th July will be his last day with the business.
Yesterday was Alan’s leaving presentation, where the staff presented him with a collection and a few gifts from the business. As well as a bottle of whisky, Alan was presented with a voucher for 2 x VIP tickets to his beloved Burnley FC next season, as well as a four-course lunch for 2 at Northcote Manor.
Alan started with Acme Refrigeration (as it was then) in 1970 as an engineer. After gaining valuable experience, Alan took a short stint working elsewhere, but returned to Acme in 1981 as a senior engineer. He’s been here ever since!
Around 20 years later, Alan was asked to cover for a service manager who was on sick-leave at the time. In Alan’s own words, “I never managed to escape the office environment after that!”. Alan was promoted to Service Manager, rising to Contracts Service Manager in recent years.
Everyone at Acme wishes Alan the happiest of retirements. Alan plans to make great use of his caravan, spend as many days abroad as possible and to spend time with his family.
