Background

Branwood Preparatory School, established in 1928, is an independant school catering for children between the ages of five and eleven. Based in Monton, Greater Manchester, it provides primary education for 130 pupils.

Branwood school has changed substantially since it moved to its current premises in 1984; pupil numbers have grown, catering demands have changed, and the kitchen has withstood 30 years of heavy use. Equipment was outdated, and cooking capabilities limited. The school decided to conduct a major upgrade to the kitchen facilities and commissioned Acme to design and complete the works

The Project

Gemma Flynn, Bursar said "Our old kitchen was very dated. The kitchen staff struggled because things have moved on so much. We wanted a complete upgrade - a kitchen that was easy to maintain and within regulations.

Stefan, Premises Manager added, "Acme took on board what the school really needed. They produced a design that was more than expected - it was fabulous really."

Darren, Project Manager from Acme said, "This was a full turnkey package. We took the old kitchen out and started from scratch. As well as the catering equipment, we did the ceiling, walls, ventilation, plumbing, electrics, gas and various building works. We also designed and manufactured the extraction canopy."

The kitchen was finished ahead of schedule and Acme supplied a training chef to train kitchen staff on their new appliances. He left them very comfortable for when school reopened.

The End Result

Stefan said, "The engineering teams were very professional and kept us up to date on progress. They were a good bunch of lads - really good to work with."

Commenting on the finished kitchen, Stefan said "It looks fabulous. Everyone that comes in cant believe how good it looks."

Gemma added "The main benefit for the kitchen is the reduced workload for the staff. With new and more modern equipment, cooking requirements have become more straightforward and enabled us to expand our menu."

Gemma added, "It has been a very positive experience working with Acme. They completed works ahead of schedule and communication has been brilliant."
